Im about 6 days out until my fight with Chad Reiner. I cant wait to step in the cage and dominate. My trining camp went great, no injuries or sickness and Im ready to go. This week im going to focus on mostly cardio and be ready to push the pace 100% for as long as I have to. Last Friday was my last real tough workout. The friday before fights at Gumm MMA is usually worse thn the fight itself. We meet at 5pm, get warmed up, wrap up, throw on 16oz's and shinguards and do full mma sparring for a full 40 minute round. I have partners rotate in every few minutes so they are fresh to push me for 40 minutes straight, no water and no break until coach says time. Its horrible but afterwards its a great mental test. If I can go 40 minutes straight with fresh guys cycling in on me 15 minutes should be a peace of cake, I should be able to go 100% nonstop. I think conditioning has actually helped me win alot of fights. I actually like to break my opponents down mentally and physically so they dont even want to be in there anymore with me. I enjoy that more than a KO or submission. For those of you that follow my fights it sucks to say I havent won my last 2 fights in my hometown. This will be different. Im ready to go out and crush Reiner any possible way I can. I have alot of size and reach on him which will benefit me well. The main key to this fight is I have had the chance to work alot more of my wrestling with some college wrestlers out here. Ive always felt that was one of my weaker qualitys but now im confident enough in my wrestling that I can step in to throw solid punches and not worry anout the take down so much. I think Reiners game plan will be to come in and take me down because of the height difference but im ready for it and if he wants to trade im ready for that as well. I know you read and hear this all the time but this is the best i have ever felt before a fight.
I finished up my week of training last saturday. I went up to a gym called IMPACT again in North Denver and the coach Mario Horta had as running the field attatched to sleds with 4 plates on it. My legs were burning so bad i could barely walk. we followed that up with weighted lunges on boxes and TRX pull ups. The workouts there are grueling but i feel stronger and faster than ever. I hope you guys can make it out to watch the fight but if your not in the area check out gofightlive.com and you can stream it on the internet.
Id like to say THANK YOU to MTX AUDIO, I couldnt possibly be this ready without their help. Also thank you to Gumm MMA (gummbjj.com) Jason Genet and Magnetic Marketing Assoc., my training partners, Brad Gumm (my coach) Oscar Martinez, Mark Montoya, Mario Horta and King of Champions (kocmma.com)
