MTX MMA

I want to thank my family, friends, fans MTX, Jason Gent, Aztec Fightgear and the UFC.

Here was my journal of the week leading up to my fight.

Tuesday- I woke up really early to catch a 730 plane to Memphis. I arrived at 130 in the afternoon (Memphis time). The UFC picked me up at the airport and took me to the hotel. Burt made me check my weight immediately. This is the lowest I have ever been for a a fight this far away from the fight. After getting checked in and signing posters, and doing some video, I was given the rest of the evening to myself. My coaches Chance and Joey showed up late today. The UFCgave me some clothes and per diem money, I took the guys out for food. The rest of the day was pretty relaxed.

Wednesday- I woke up and checked my weight, it is coming down better than I expected. I feel strong. I hope to be under 178 by tomorrow. I did more photo shoots and video work for the UFC. The rest of the day was spent hanging out with my coaches trying to get my mind off of this weight cut. It is 1000 pm and I just got back from a run, it is cold here in Memphis. Weight cutting always affects my sleep, just going to toss and turn while TV.

Thursday- I woke up at 178, my goal. Just 7 pounds away. Today was just more rolling and weight cutting as I get prepared for the important cut tomorrow. I would like to got to bed as close as possible so tomorrow's workout isn't as bad as usual. Fellow MTX fighter Efrain Escudero arrived today. My other coach should be here tonight. Nothing really exciting today.

Friday- I woke up just 3 pounds over but I did not have much energy to lose it. We decided to cut early just in case. We went to a local gym here and it was miserable. I want to thank my coaches and Sheply for keeping me motivated. I refused to get into the sauna this time. Diego Sanchez actually passed off some positive energy by trying to keep me motivated. "YES!" I was171.5 at noon so we decided to relax back at the hotel until weighins. My team had water, subway and Pedia Lite ready for me as soon as I stepped off the scale. The next 3 hours seemed like an eternity. I stepped on the scale and somehow the commission guy said I was still 2 pounds over. Of course I was pretty mad and told Dana the scale was wrong. Dana just told me to get my clothes on and run the two pounds off. I was still mad at the scale, However, after the pose off I put my clothes back on to run when we started to notice many people were over. They re-calibrated the scale and instead of running I waited for the last weigh in. I made weight immediately on the calibrated scale. I was relieved. I ate my subway and later that night enjoyed my ritual Olive Garden. Now its time to focus on my fight and fall into a deep slumber.

Saturday- Today is fight day. I am getting ready and going through my usual routine of a hearty breakfast, warm up nap, lunch nap fight time. '

Fight did not go as well as it should have. For any of you with questions, "it was the up-kick" that got me and it sucks I got hit with it. It happens but trust me I will be back.

Stay tuned for behind the scene videos to be posted in the next couple of days.

Great job Edgar. I saw the upkick and knew that was what made you fall into the triangle. Up until then, you were controlling the fight and man handling him. Look forward to seeing you inside the cage again soon!
